In all seasons, the Hérisson waterfalls offer an endlessly renewed spectacle, to the rhythm of the nature of the Jura. They owe their existence to the ""Hedgehog"", an energetic torrent which originates from the Saut Girard, from the lakes of Bonlieu and Ilay. Nature has shaped this abundant valley and created no less than 31 successive jumps, which constitute these famous waterfalls.

To visit these waterfalls is to take a hike in the heart of nature which, moreover, will allow you to admire some historical remains. Indeed, the driving force of water attracted populations, for nearly seven centuries, to forge tools, grind grains ... The inhabitants also used local natural resources, such as hemp, iron ore, cereals. or wood.During the ride, do not forget to listen to the murmur of the water at Gour Bleu or to contemplate the impressive falls of the Saut de l'Éventail (65 m) and the Grand Saut (60 m).

Getting to the Cascades du Hérisson

The Hérisson Waterfalls are mainly located in the town of Ménétrux-en-Joux. Several options allow you to vary the course and its difficulty. We recommend comfortable and suitable walking shoes in all seasons. To find out how to get to the Hérisson waterfalls, follow the guide!

• From Doucier ( Lac de Chalain ) , take direction Saint-Laurent-en-Grandvaux then follow the direction of Chambly. : With your parking ticket, visit the Maison des Cascades for free , which offers a very fun visit to understand the origins of the site, its history and its legends.Just after the Maison des Cascades, the restaurant and the shop, take the path that leads you to the foot of the Fan waterfall, the first in the series. You can then begin your ascent by going upstream in the water.
• From Ilay , you can park in the car park behind the Auberge du Hérisson restaurant. Access to the Cascades is via a landscaped path that leads you to the Saut Girard. You have the option of following the labeled ""Comfort walk"" route which allows you to explore the site on a route suitable for people with travel difficulties. From the Auberge du Hérisson and in the direction of Bonlieu, you will have access to the viewpoint on the Saut Girard where a PMR platform is set up. A little further in the same direction, a car park and a PRM access reserved for rights holders allows access to the foot of the Saut Girard waterfall by vehicle.
• Access is also possible from Bonlieu, where you will be halfway through the Saut de la Forge. Parking is free and a brasserie is available for gourmets.
• From the hamlet of La Fromagerie , you can take the waterfall path in the direction of the descent. Parking is free, again with restaurants and shops nearby.
